Aged care is the one setting where exhaust and HVAC hygiene answers two questions at once. People live in the home, so air quality and infection prevention sit inside your duty of care under the Aged Care Quality Standards, not just facilities housekeeping, and AS 1668.2 and AS/NZS 3666.2 set the bar for the air side. At the same time the kitchen builds grease in the exhaust system at the same rate as any commercial kitchen serving meals several times a day, and carries the same fire load, which is what AS 1851-2012 maintenance is there to keep in check. Both fronts are regulated, both have to be documented, and a Standard 4 review expects that responsibility to be shown, not assumed.

Two standards, not one
Fire safety and air quality, both documented
In aged care the same clean has to satisfy two fronts at once: the exhaust system kept genuinely clean (not just visibly clean) under AS 1851-2012, and the quality of the air people live in, where AS 1668.2 and AS/NZS 3666.2 apply. That is why the bar is higher here than in most segments. The strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards put a sharper onus on Standard 4 (a safe physical environment), while the standing essential-safety-measures obligation behind every AFSS (NSW) and ESM report (VIC) means a home is expected to hold maintenance records that evidence the work was actually carried out. SAIS carries out the AS 1851-2012 maintenance and supplies the documented records that feed those obligations. SAIS does not sign the AFSS or ESM; your home does, on the strength of the evidence behind it.

In our reading of the standards
We maintain and document exhaust systems to AS 1851-2012 and HVAC to AS 1668.2 / AS/NZS 3666.2 air-hygiene standards, including the maintenance records your fire-safety practitioner relies on to endorse each home’s AFSS or ESM report. SAIS does the AS 1851-2012 maintenance and supplies the records the practitioner relies on. In NSW, records are retained so the evidence is on hand when an assessor, insurer or regulator asks.
That covers both halves of the risk in an aged care setting, the fire load in the exhaust and the air your residents breathe, with one partner and one report.

How do you minimise disruption to residents?
We schedule around meal times, rest periods and facility routines, and work to your access protocols. Most cleans run in quiet windows to minimise disruption to residents and staff.
Do you cover air quality as well as fire safety?
Yes. Alongside kitchen exhaust cleaning, we clean HVAC ductwork, coils and air-handling units to NADCA / AS/NZS 3666.2 air-hygiene standards: both halves of the risk, one partner.
Is your documentation suitable for accreditation reviews?
Yes. Every service produces cleaning certificates, before-and-after photos and detailed reports, with records retained in NSW so the evidence is on hand when an assessor asks.

How frequently do aged care kitchen canopies and ducts need professional cleaning?
It depends on the cooking load. Most aged care kitchens cook for residents several times a day, a steady moderate to high load, which as a guide means kitchen exhaust cleaning quarterly to semi-annually, with a professional clean at least annually so the system is maintained to AS 1851-2012. We assess each home’s kitchen, set the frequency per site, then hold it on one schedule across the group.
Do you clean kitchen exhaust systems in aged care homes outside NSW?
